Original Item: Only One Available. This is a most interesting accessory complete in the original high quality leather case, maker marked and dated 1915.
The scope is constructed of aluminum and on the side is a dove tail bracket to attach to the side, we believe, of an Air Craft Machine Gun.
The periscope is based on a rectangular tube measuring 1.25" x 1.125" in cross section and 11" long, making it too short for trench use.
The tube is painted a non-reflecting dark charcoal grey, and the viewing windows are covered by sliding aluminum covers meaning the optics are perfect. There are no markings of any kind on the periscope itself however the high quality leather case is marked:
GENERAL LEATHER GOODS LIMITED, TORONTO 1915
GLG of Toronto was a well-known supplier of military hardware of the period. More research is needed on this one but the quality, size and materials used would certainly indicate a WW1 Military Aviator connection.
